Board Cuts Tax Rate to 20 Year Low

Board Member Mark Pettitt at a recent Budget Hearing.

The Hall County Board of Education adopted a balanced Fiscal Year 2024 Budget and millage rate on Monday, June 26, 2023. The new millage rate reflects the fourth reduction in five years, and is the lowest since 2004.

Additionally, the budget provides a $2,000 raise for certified teachers and a $1,000 increase for classified staff as well as investments in learning loss mitigation related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even with the increased personnel investments, the Hall County School System boasts the one of the most conservative budgets in the state. Hall County Schools spends about $1,300 less per pupil than the state average and spends less per pupil than all but one of neighboring districts.

The property tax rate, now at a 20 year low, is one of the lowest in the state.
